This book has been extensively revised and redone to synthesise the economic, social and political history of Africa in the period 1800-1914. To emphasise the remarkable oneness of Africa’s history and the similarities in the colonial experience from one region to another, the author has adopted a comparative approach, focusing on the main themes and characters of Africa’s colourful history. The result is a remarkable textbook, which takes much of the drag out of history as an examination subject.
