Today, 20 October 2026, East African Educational Publishers joins the nation in celebrating Mashujaa Day with great pride. Our Managing Director and CEO, Mr Kiarie Kamau, has been recognised among Kenya’s National Heroes for a lifetime devoted to education, literature and the African story.
From the classroom to the boardroom
Mr Kamau began his career as a teacher. Around 2000 he joined EAEP, invited into publishing by the then Managing Director, Barack Muluka. He rose from sub-editor to the top of the company and became Managing Director and CEO in 2015. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Nairobi.
Championing African publishing
Under his leadership, EAEP has published:
- the Great Achievers Series for primary schools
- competency-based books for Kenya’s new curriculum
- Kiswahili Angaza
He has also driven the company’s digital content initiatives and its online sales. He has a special passion for publishing creative works in Kiswahili and other African languages.
A voice for the industry
Mr Kamau has served the book sector beyond EAEP:
- Chairman of the Kenya Publishers Association (KPA), elected in April 2022, working closely with government, including the Ministry of Education
- Regional Representative for Eastern Africa on the board of the African Publishers Network (APNET)
- Member of the Council of Management of the African Books Collective (ABC)
- Member of the International Publishers Association’s (IPA) Copyright Policy Working Group
He has presented papers on publishing and literature at local and international forums. He co-edited Coming of Age: Strides in African Publishing (2016), a collection of essays honouring EAEP’s founder, the late Dr Henry Chakava.
Hongera, Shujaa wetu!
The entire EAEP family congratulates Mr Kamau on this well-deserved honour. His work shows our motto in action: Educate · Enlighten · Empower.
